Two figures, in the searing heat of a summer’s day on the Tuscan coast, build a simple blanket roof on sticks to protect them from the sun’s rays. Scratchy triffid and tumbleweed-like plants, cling to the parched earth with their shallow roots. Drawing on the hoof in this place near Pisa, overlooking The Ligurian Sea, reminded me of a setting in a dystopian JG Ballard short story.
