Blindout

TH: This woodcut was made after the snowstorms in early 2011 when we were cut off for a few days from the village. It was also inspired by a beautiful woodcut I saw in the British Museum of a snow storm at Hatakudari by Hasui Kawase.

Technically this was a challenge to make, counter-intuitively printing white on top of dark grey to get a range of off white tones. Printing the woodcut this way also enabled me to cut out the trees rather than cut out everything but the trees which avoided a lot of foul printing.
