Sanctuary - Ian Chamberlain, Katherine Jones, Tom Hammick at Glasgow Print Studio 10th October - 29th November 2025

October 2025

Tom expanded the idea of sanctuary being a specific place of safety from danger to the refuge that we find in earth’s protection as home in its widest context. So the woodcuts and etchings are images that are all located outdoors where the figures within the images are surrounded by trees, flowers and forests. John Clare’s poem, All Nature has a Feeling, was in the background of these images being made.

All nature has a feeling

All nature has a feeling: woods, fields, brooks
Are life eternal: and in silence they
Speak happiness beyond the reach of books;
There's nothing mortal in them; their decay
Is the green life of change; to pass away
And come again in blooms revivified.
Its birth was heaven, eternal is its stay,
And with the sun and moon shall still abide
Beneath their day and night and heaven wide.
